Freshman End of Year Student Commentary…
What does it mean to be a freshman at Fulton High School?
To me, being a freshman at Fulton High School is really exciting and way better than middle school. I really like it here. I get to meet new people and have a lot more freedom. I like that it is so diverse.
-Kayla
The thing that makes freshman different from everybody else is…We live on the 4th floor. The maroon polos that we wear are horrific. We get an exercise walking up to the floor in the sky every day. The good thing is we all know each other. The teachers have high expectations for all of us.
-Amir
It means that I am part of something more than just school.
-Tessa
I have liked being a freshman because the teachers and other students have made it super fun!
-Megan
It means that you’re a genius maniac who’s trapped on the top floor. It also means you have the best teachers in the school. Basically, it means that you are part of the youngest class in the best school.
-Bruce
To be a freshman is like being the roots of a plant. We are the support system of the year 2012. Freshmen build up each year to make a better future. At Fulton, freshmen make people stand in awe of our awesomeness.
-Kristian
It means a new beginning for students who had a hard and tough time in middle school. It’s a chance to meet new friends or just hang out with the old. It’s a time to build new bridges or burn old ones.
-Katie
It takes knowledge and energy to be a student at Fulton. When I walked through the doors of Fulton for the first time, I knew that this year was going to be a whole new ballgame. I was thinking about what challenges I would have to face and what tasks I would have to accomplish. To be a student at Fulton, you have to have the ability to succeed.
-Jay
The teachers are the ones that have inspired me the most this year. They all have a sense of humor and are really intelligent. They have been here for me ever since day one.
-Zach
It means a lot to be a freshman at Fulton High School. People have high expectations for you and give you many opportunities to be successful in school and in life. There are also many changes that you have to get accustomed to and never take what you have for granted.
-Althea
Being a freshman at Fulton High School is fun because we are the youngest students in the school and we are going to prove the upperclassmen wrong.
-Rhikelah
Being a freshman here at Fulton High School means having many priorities. Freshmen at Fulton have priorities that no other school does. These uniforms help us to become young adults. We have many things here as a freshman and many activities that someone belongs in.
-Crissy
It means that you matter. You have a say about your hallway. There are a lot of cool teachers, and they will help you no matter what.
-Courtney
We’re all told that it’s about becoming an adult, but I also think it’s about failure sometimes too. Like learning from your failures, and how to prevent them from happening again. But at Fulton, being a freshman is about being held to a higher standard. The oh-so-wonderful Mr. Siebe enforces tucking and no hoodies, etc. I think being a freshman at Fulton is harder than being a sophomore or any other upperclassmen if you think about it.
-Sharena
It’s an experience that I will never forget because it’s not hard but not easy.
-Damond
Whenever someone sees a maroon polo, they automatically think, “They’re a freshman.” So being a freshman is very different. I like being able to stand out.
-Mollie
To be freshman at Fulton High School means to be underestimated.
-Jacob
To be a very well-mannered and respectful student…a student that wants to achieve the most important things in life. It prepares you to prepare yourself for the future and it basically encourages you to be yourself and to build your self-esteem.
-Mychico
Being a freshman starts you into the real world.
-Alex
For me being a freshman means starting over. For me it’s about finding out who are true friends and leaving behind those who aren’t. Realizing what I want from life and following my own footsteps. I have realized that my future is most important. I’m not here for friends and no matter what, if I only leave here with a diploma in my hands, I’ll be happy because to me, high school is about education. Right now, that’s what has my attention.
-Taryn
Who or what has inspired you the most this year?
I guess my pride for my school won’t let me settle for the low grades. That’s just how I am.
-Bruce
Most of my teachers and all of my friends have inspired me this year. They have taught me that school is important for me and that I need it if I want to have a good education when I’m older. They inspired me to actually try more in school and get better grades, or maybe study more so I do better.
-Kayla
The people who have inspired me the most this year are probably most of my teachers because when I was absent a lot they all told me that I could do it. In most of my classes I have done it like Mr. Negendank, Ms. Cardwell, Mr. Smoker, and Ms. Fawver. I’m glad I was placed in their classes because they pushed me so much until I finally got to the spot where I need to be.
-Kristen
How have you changed or grown this year?
This year has been fun and hard. I have had to work harder than ever.
-Kayla
I came into this school year with a no-good, playful attitude. Now that I know how much grades mean and where they can and will get me, I have straightened up this year. I went from a playful child into a young adult.
-Zach
I have made many mistakes, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t learn from them. That’s what growing up is all about, isn’t it? You learn from your mistakes, and I have grown up from many of my mistakes.
-Crissy
I’ve put myself in the mindset of completing school. That’s most important.
-Taryn
